Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy (
Maria Beatrice Elena Margherita Ludovica Caterina Ramona di Savoia (born
2 February 1943) is the youngest daughter of Italy's last king,
Umberto II and his queen,
Marie José of Belgium. Known as "Titti" to family and friends. She was known as a rebellious princess, having numerous love affairs in her twenties, most notably with actor Maurizio Arena. She later suffered from alcoholism and attempted suicide a number of times.
Marriage
Maria Beatrice married
Luis Rafael Reyna-Corvalán y Dillon (
18 April 1939-
17 February 1999; murdered) in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico on
April 1,
1970. She was pregnant at the time of her marriage. No family members attended. The couple had three children.
- Rafael Humberto Lupo Reyna y de Saboya (21 September 1970-29 April 1994), committed suicide
- Patrizio Reyna y de Saboya (1971); died shortly after birth
- Azaea Beatrice Reyna y de Saboya (b. 11 November 1973), married Arturo Pando y Mundet (1971-) in 1996, Mexico.
Tragedy and Controversy
In 1971 her second child Patrizio died shortly after birth. In 1994 her eldest son committed suicide by jumping out a window in Boston. The following year she separated from her husband, after a long unhappy marriage. In 1999, her husband was murdered in his villa in Mexico. The crime was very disturbing, apparently his chauffeur had strangled him with the string of his bath wrap.

This death too was shrouded in mystery as Maria Beatrice, nor her only surviving child Azaea, never came to claim Reyna's body and neither attending his funeral. In days after her husband's murder police were unable to locate Maria Beatrice,though later she was found in the Bahamas were she said she was on vacation at the time of her husband's death. Today she lives in Mexico and New York.
